Technology & Arts Instructor
Mrs. Hazen joined the Army when she was a teenager and has traveled all over the world. Having married a Marine, she continued her travels and has lived throughout the United States, Japan, Hawaii, and the Far East. She was an English and cultural teacher in Japan for the Japanese Maritime Navy for 4 years before moving to Hawaii. She taught cooking, cake decorating, and art classes in Hawaii, Japan, Washington, Oregon, and California. Living in Hawaii she became involved in missions by assisting during Hurricane Iniki and helping patients and families at the Kalaupapa Leper Colony. She has friends all over the world and from all walks of life. She's been on mission trips working in cities rebuilding homes, churches, and schools in Mexico, orphanages in Japan, and homes in our cities. In her last teaching job in Minnesota before moving to Illinois, her favorite students were at the Detention Center. She was a preferred teacher there and at other schools. It was a sad time for her when she left Minnesota, and they were sad that she moved away. However, she hopes to make a difference here too!
TAA Art Instructor
Shaun Hays began his professional career as an artist 25 years ago, by speed painting for a crowd of less than 50 people. His artwork and his presentation was received with enthusiastic ovation. Soon he was traveling across the United States presenting speed chalk art to groups of thousands.
He began to take his love of street art and illusion and combine them to create 3D masterpieces around Chicago and the Globe. Most of his works are drawn freehand and extemporaneous. He has created worlds firsts* and is continually developing new techniques for 3D chalk and he has been featured at festivals and events on several continents.
Shaun has taught several artists that have taken chalk artistry as far as the Philippines, become well known artists and…with his help: champions.
